THE UNTAPPED WEALTH OF THE NATION
(A STRATEGIC ALTERNATIVE FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA NIGERIA IN FOCUS)
The future of a forest lies in a seed and the potent power of any seed has its root in the ground where it is planted to receive proper ingredients for continuous growth.
Africa largely had gone through years of slavery, oppression that had kept our mind darkened away from our limitless potentials. We have limited access and understanding of our own immense inner abilities that only few of us are tapping from and we have become so backward in thinking, ideas, concepts and creativity through irrelevant ideas from senseless religious ideas, traditions and cultures that we have adopted as a result of our generational slavery, depression and oppression of our own personal identity, purpose and potentials.
Distance is no more the problem in terms of communication and technology. Fortunately, new generations have emerged and the dispensation of ours has emerged with tremendous benefits of science and technology together with sophisticated information on various social media that can easily access our request or information to corporal and individuals on the internet and receive the feedback without any hurdle. The most critical factor on communication and technology is that crimes have grown beyond normality in our days due to the fact that we have concentrated on an aspect of our economy that fails to boost other areas of our inner potent-power.
Naturally, we are endowed with several food and cash crops because we have a very productive soil to germinate them under a proper atmosphere good enough to make us richer than other nations in terms of agricultural produce. Today, it is alarming to know that we have lost great number of them. On the other hand, great number of individuals who are interested in agricultural production and its management are still doing great but their efforts are not commended. Kudos to the likes of Dr. Akinwunmi Adesola, a former Minister of Agriculture in Nigeria and several of others who had made tremendous impacts on Agriculture. Nonetheless, the soil of most nations in Africa, are rich enough and had not been cultivated for high level of productivity. Ethiopia for several decades is known to be the bane of diamond and now they have lost it to the Western companies. Nigeria, for instance, had lost some of the food and cash crops that she can manufacture by herself for a long time; we sold them off to the Westerners because of greediness for money. It’s a pity.
Importantly, our educational system had declined after the second republic regime and (the system of education) could no longer solve the current dispensation challenges. Our private Universities are still trying but most of what we are learning in schools are not channeling the students towards taking grip of their inner abilities and potentials that are productive enough to solve the real world problems in the nations at large. From four to seven years in the Universities, methods and procedures are learnt without any positive solution to the mind of the students. Albert Einstein had said;
‘’Education is not about the learning of the facts rather it’s about the
training of the MIND to think’’
The important truth is that our current dispensation has totally changed; we do not need any sophisticated or traditional ideas taught and passed down by living or dead icons. This is the age of potential education and not the age of paper ‘CERTIFICATE’. Since the inception of creation, the Creator so wired each of the creatures in such a way that what will make them to grow, increase, develop, or become fruitful and multiply are all inside the creatures. To have a tree, plant some seed, to have a forest, plant some trees in a secluded environment. This at the first generation of creation is still the same in every other areas of life. We are wired with certain inner potentials that will later fetch us profits if work hard on them. That is what our Educational system should focus on in Africa. Every child in their tender age should be monitored with keen observation on their natural abilities not on our own traditional vocational degrees or PhDs that cannot solve the real world problems. Our children potentials should be tailored towards making them become in their inner potentials such that they can solve problems with it and it could bring money for them later. Many of the successful people I know are best successful in their various ways of potentials not really in what they gone to school to study.
Above all, African has lost a lot of gems both ladies and gentlemen to foreign countries. Many of our highly sought for professionals in other countries have left the shore of our land without looking back. So many in the world of entertainment and Hollywood industry, some in world of sports especially in football. So many have naturalized themselves as citizens of these foreign countries. We do not appreciate what we have in terms of individual potentials and natural resources. The greatest value of all creation is human being. We have great potentials in ourselves that we have neglected. African economy is so rich for business and development of entrepreneurial skills but the government has not made it convenient for people to run their business adequately. As a result, crime has increased adversely. For any economy to thrive without focusing solely on the government there is need for DEPLOYMENT. The government must permit every citizen to develop their potentials right from the primary education such that the ‘white collar job’ would not be what they are waiting for after the degree education. In China today, every citizen has a vocation or occupation that he or she is engaged with and this has become a law in the nation. Thus, this makes every Chinese citizen to be productive and successful in any nation they live especially, in America. Some of the sky scrapping companies in USA is owned by the Chinese. They usually think business. Africa must wake up and take the lead in their ingenuity for the development of the nations is groping in the dark with no foresight of the nations economy.
